
MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Meridian Community College Eagles are postseason bound and set to compete in the NJCAA Region 23 Baseball Tournament, entering the bracket as the No. 9 seed. MCC will take on No. 8 seed Northwest Mississippi Community College in a single elimination play-in game at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 5 in Poplarville, Mississippi.
The winner of Monday's matchup will advance to face the top-seeded and tournament host, Pearl River Community College, as the tournament transitions into a double elimination format. Also competing in the Pearl River bracket are No. 4 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast and No. 5 seed Northeast Mississippi. Those teams will square off on Tuesday, May 6.
MCC enters the tournament with a 27-23 overall record and a 14-14 mark in MACCC conference play. The Eagles split their regular season series with Northwest in Senatobia, with each team securing a run-rule victory. Northwest holds a 31-18 overall record and an identical 14-14 conference record.
While Pearl River hosts one side of the Region 23 bracket, the other side will be contested at East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi. That bracket will also begin with a single elimination play-in game as No. 7 seed Southwest faces No. 10 seed Holmes on Monday. The double elimination round begins Tuesday, featuring No. 2 East Central against the play-in winner and No. 3 Jones taking on No. 6 Copiah-Lincoln.
Both tournament brackets will run through Friday, May 9. The winners of each bracket will meet in a best-of-three Region 23 Championship Series set for May 14–16, with a trip to the NJCAA Division II World Series on the line.
