MCC Golf Finishes Runner-Up at MACCC Championship

CORINTH, Miss. – The Meridian Community College Eagles Golf Team, currently ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA, turned in a stellar performance this week at the 2025 MACCC Championship, held April 14–15 at Shiloh Ridge Athletic Club in Corinth, Mississippi. After leading the field at the end of the first round, the Eagles ultimately claimed a strong runner-up finish behind No. 1-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Day one of the two-day tournament began Monday morning at 10 a.m., and the Eagles came out swinging—finishing with a three-stroke lead at 7-over par as a team. Mississippi Gulf Coast closed the day at 10-over, followed by 13th-ranked Jones College at 14-over. Sophomore standout Bruce McClung ended the opening round tied for the individual lead with Gulf Coast's John Mark Mills, both carding a 2-under performance. MCC placed three golfers in the top 10, with freshman Jace Duckworth finishing the day in fifth at 1-over and sophomore Collin Russell sitting in seventh at 3-over.

Tuesday's final round brought a back-and-forth battle at the top between the Eagles and the Bulldogs of Gulf Coast. MCC held its own throughout the day but ultimately finished second, wrapping up the tournament at 16-over par. Gulf Coast secured the MACCC Championship title with a final team score of 13-over.

Individually, McClung posted a consistent performance across both days to finish 2nd overall at even par, while teammate Russell climbed the leaderboard to finish 5th at 3-over for the tournament.

With their strong showing, the Eagles now set their sights on the Gulf District Tournament, to be held April 21–23 in Tunica, Mississippi. The team will compete for a spot at the NJCAA Division II National Championship.
