JACKSON - Meridian Community College inducted its newest member into the Mississippi Community and Junior College Sports Hall of Fame last night. Brandt Garon was a standout golfer for Meridian Community College from 2009 to 2011 and helped lead MCC to a No. 2 national finish.
As a freshman at MCC, Garon won the NJCAA individual national title and became the school's first NJCAA individual national champion—the Baton Rouge native shot 5-under at the national tournament (71-72-68) to win by two shots. Garon was named a Golf Coaches Association of America First Team All American NJCAA First Team All-American, named to the National Championship All-Tournament Team, and given the Arnold Palmer Award for being the NJCAA medalist.
As a sophomore, Garon didn't slow down as he received the GCAA's Jack Nicklaus Award in 2011 as the national player of the year. Garon was named a PING First-Team All-America selection and PING All-Region for the second consecutive year.
After his time at Meridian, Brandt signed to continue his golf career at The University of Louisiana Lafayette. He finished third at the SBC Championship and earned all-conference honors.
Brandt Garon played high school golf at Parkview Baptist in Baton Rouge, LA, leading them to the 3A State Championship in 2008 and 2009. Garon was recruited to be an Eagles by former coach and MACJC hall of fame coach Sean Covich. Covich said about Brandt's induction, "I can't think of anyone more deserving of this honor than Brant. I'm happy for Brandt because he was a great player and teammate. He had a fun personality and a player I'll remember forever."
Brandt now resides in Zachary, LA, with his wife, Allison, and daughter Ellie. He is the owner and operator of Southern Hospitality and Maintenance.
