
MONROE, LA – Meridian Community College (MCC) is proud to announce outstanding performances from both the men's and women's track and field teams at the recent NJCAA National Championships held at The University of Louisiana-Monroe. The men's team achieved a commendable 11th-place finish, while the women's team also showed a competitive spirit, finishing 22nd.
Highlighting the event, MCC's Tafadzwa Chikomba clinched the national championship in the long jump with a remarkable leap of 7.68 meters. Chikomba also competed in the triple jump, securing 16th place with a distance of 14.32 meters.
On the track, Kylan Bernard sprinted to a personal best in the 110m hurdles, capturing second place with a swift time of 13.62 seconds. Bernard's time is also a school record and the 11th fastest time in NJCAA history. Keon Buck also turned heads with his performance in the 200m, finishing 6th in a competitive field with a time of 20.98 seconds.
The MCC women's team had strong showings from multiple athletes. Privilege Chikara led the charge, finishing 3rd in the 800m with 2:09.64 and 4th in the 1500m, clocking in at 4:33.36. Taliyah Lindsay showcased her speed in the 200m, finishing 7th at 24.41. In field events, Ashanti Patton claimed 11th place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.29 meters, and Charm Rone finished 15th in the long jump with a distance of 5.47 meters.
"These achievements are a testament to our athletes' dedication and hard work," said head coach Chip Gayden. "I am incredibly proud of their performance and how they represent our college on and off the field."
