
Joplin, MO – The Meridian Community College (MCC) Golf Team showcased their resilience and skill at the recent NJCAA National Golf Tournament held at Twin Hills Golf Club in Joplin, Missouri, finishing an impressive 10th out of 22 teams from across the nation.
On the first day, Carson Darby led the team with a score of 75, followed by Collin Russell at 78, Dawson Hester at 81, Maddox Atkinson at 82, and Bruce McClung at 85. Starting the tournament in 14th place with an initial team score of 316, the Eagles showed steady improvement throughout the event.
The second day saw notable improvements, with the team shooting a combined score of 302, which elevated them to the 12th position. Highlights included consistent performances by Darby and McClung, carding 75, and Atkinson improving significantly to 76.
The momentum continued into the third day, with the team scoring their best yet at 299. Darby's impressive 71, supported by Russell's 74 and consistent scores from the rest of the team, pushed the Eagles into the top ten.
In the final round, the Eagles maintained their top-ten standing with a team score of 300. Darby and Russell each shot 75, McClung excelled with a 73, and the consistent effort from Hester and Atkinson sealed the 10th-place finish.
Coach Lance Strickland praised the team's perseverance and growth, saying, "Our players have shown tremendous dedication and resilience this season. I'm extremely proud of them. Finishing in the top ten nationally is a great achievement for our program. It speaks volumes about their hard work and the support of the MCC community."
