
MERIDIAN—Meridian Community College (MCC) is proud to announce that two of its standout pitchers, Andrew Prejean and Cole Blackwell, have signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions. Prejean will join the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers, while Blackwell is set to become a member of the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs.
Andrew Prejean, a right-handed pitcher from Alexandria, Louisiana, has been a pivotal player for the MCC Eagles. Standing at 5'10" and weighing 190 pounds, Prejean appeared in 15 games during the 2023-24 season, starting in four. He recorded a 3-2 win-loss record with a 6.75 ERA over 48 innings pitched. Prejean struck out 61 batters, averaging 11.44 strikeouts per game, and held opponents to a .254 batting average.
Cole Blackwell, a left-handed pitcher from Enterprise, Mississippi, has also been instrumental in the team's success. At 6'2" and 185 pounds, Blackwell made 11 appearances, including two starts, during the 2023-24 season. He achieved a 1-1 record with a 5.52 ERA across 14.2 innings, striking out 14 batters with an average of 8.59 strikeouts per game.
MCC's Head Baseball Coach expressed pride in both athletes, stating, "Andrew and Cole have been exceptional contributors to our program. Their dedication and performance have set a high standard, and we are confident they will continue to excel at UAB and La Tech, respectively."
