No. 20 Eagles Power Past Southwest, Improve to 10-3

SUMMIT, Miss. – The No. 20 Meridian Community College Eagles continued their strong start to the season with an 8-4 victory over Southwest Mississippi Community College on Monday night. A fast start and disciplined approach at the plate helped MCC secure the win, improving to 10-3 on the season.

The Eagles wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, striking in the first inning when Hampton Ross delivered a bases-clearing double to put MCC up 3-0. Southwest responded quickly, tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning.

Meridian regained control in the second inning, capitalizing on a hit-by-pitch and back-to-back walks to push across three more runs, taking a 6-3 lead. The Eagles added insurance runs late to seal the victory.

Andrew Prejean picked up the win on the mound, delivering five strong innings while allowing just four hits and no earned runs. The right-hander struck out nine and did not allow a walk. Corbin Gillentine closed out the game with a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one.

At the plate, Ross led the Eagles with four RBIs, going 1-for-3. Brennon Wright and Harlin Hovater each recorded two hits, while MCC showcased patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks in the game. Williams, Wright, and Chris Fox each worked two free passes to help fuel the offensive attack.
