No. 20 Eagles Split Doubleheader at Hinds

RAYMOND, Miss. – The Meridian Community College Eagles baseball team demonstrated grit and determination on the road in Raymond, MS, engaging in a thrilling doubleheader against the Hinds Community College Eagles. Despite dropping a close contest in game one by a 7-6 score, the Eagles rebounded in game two with a commanding 12-7 victory, elevating their season record to 11-4.

MCC Comeback Falls Short

In game one, the Eagles rallied to register nine hits. Chris Fox led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 and launching a crucial solo home run to left field in the top of the seventh inning. Harlin Hovater also contributed significantly with two hits. An Eagles lead built in the fifth inning was momentarily lost in the dramatic seventh, as Hinds rallied with a five-run burst. Meridian tried to mount a comeback in the ninth, but fell short.

Dominant Out The Gate

Game two saw the Eagles' bats come alive early. In the top of the first inning, the team exploded on the scoreboard as Hovater drew a walk, followed by Fox's timely single that drove in two runs. The momentum continued as Tyrus Williams delivered a powerful two-run home run to right field, setting the tone for the high-scoring affair. In total, Meridian recorded 11 hits in game two, with Fox, Hovater, and Williams each driving in pivotal runs and contributing to the offensive surge. Joel Smith earned the win allowing one hit and striking out six over four and one-third innings.

The Eagles will hit the road on Wednesday, February 26 in Scooba, MS, starting with an 11:00 AM contest against East Mississippi followed by a 2:00 PM game versus East Central.
