MERIDIAN, Miss. - Meridian Community College freshman right-handed pitcher Connor Gehr continues to make headlines, earning National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Pitcher of the Week honors on Wednesday. This recognition follows his previous selection as the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Pitcher of the Week, solidifying his status as one of the nation's top arms.
Gehr, a standout from Gulf Shores, Alabama, earned the honor with a complete-game shutout against Mississippi Gulf Coast on February 17, striking out 11 batters while allowing just five hits and one walk in the Eagles' narrow 1-0 victory.
On the same day he was named NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week, Gehr delivered another strong performance, taking the mound against #2 East Central Community College. In that outing, he struck out seven batters over five innings, showcasing his consistency against top competition.
So far this season, Gehr has been a force for the 20th-ranked Eagles, boasting an undefeated 3-0 record with 21 innings pitched. In four appearances he has allowed only three runs while maintaining an impressive 1.29 ERA. With 29 strikeouts and just nine walks, Gehr has been phenomenal for MCC's pitching staff.
