MERIDIAN, Miss. - Meridian Community College freshman pitcher Connor Gehr has once again earned recognition as one of the top arms in the state. Gehr was named the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Pitcher of the Week following his dominant performance against Itawamba Community College.
This marks the second time this season Gehr has claimed the MACCC weekly pitching honor, having previously earned the award on February 25. Just a day later, on February 26, he was recognized on the national stage as the NJCAA National Player of the Week.
Gehr, a native of Gulf Shores, Alabama and graduate of Gulf Shores High School, was lights out in his most recent outing. He tossed seven shutout innings against Itawamba, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 batters to secure the win for the Eagles.
"Connor has been a steady presence for us on the mound all season," said MCC Head Coach Dillon Sudduth. "He's a competitor and continues to deliver in big moments."
Gehr's consistency has played a key role in MCC's season. The Eagles currently hold a 27-21 record heading into their regular-season finale. MCC will travel to Wesson, Mississippi, to face Copiah-Lincoln Community College in a doubleheader on Monday, April 29 at Sullivan Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. before the Eagles head into postseason play.
