
SAUCIER, Miss. – The nationally ranked No. 7 Meridian Community College Eagles made a strong statement at the Bulldog Spring Invitational, finishing second overall in a competitive field at the Grand Bear Golf Club. The two-round tournament, held February 10-11, saw MCC rise to the challenge against some of the top NJCAA teams in the country.
After round one on Monday, the Eagles stood in third place with a team score of +7, trailing behind No. 10 East Central Community College (+4) and No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (-3). Leading MCC's charge was sophomore Bruce McClung, who carded an impressive -2, followed closely by freshman Jace Duckworth at -1.
Day two began with an 8:30 a.m. tee time, and the Eagles battled through the final round, finishing the day at +17. Their combined total of +24 secured a runner-up finish, surpassing East Central and finishing behind tournament champion Mississippi Gulf Coast, who won with an even-par tournament score.
McClung and Duckworth remained steady throughout the tournament, both finishing in the top five individually with a final score of +2.
MCC's strong showing at the Bulldog Spring Invitational sets the tone for the remainder of the season as the Eagles prepare for their next challenge at the Chris Clark Invitational on Monday, March 3.
