MCC's Lainey Briggs Named NJCAA and MACCC Player of the Week

MERIDIAN, Miss. – Meridian Community College freshman infielder Lainey Briggs has been named both the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Player of the Week following an outstanding performance at the plate. The Corinth, Miss., native delivered a dominant week, helping lead the Eagles through a tough slate of six games.

Briggs' impressive offensive display included matchups against #16 Marion Military Institute, Reid State Technical College, and #2 Kirkwood Community College. Over the six-game stretch, she posted a .455 batting average, belted two home runs, and recorded four doubles, 10 RBIs, and eight runs scored. Her clutch performance was highlighted by a walk-off winner against #2 Kirkwood.

The MACCC recognized her outstanding efforts by naming her Player of the Week on Tuesday, February 11. A day later, Briggs was recognized by the NJCAA and named National Player of the Week.

Briggs wasted no time building on her momentum, kicking off the new week in dominant fashion. In MCC's doubleheader sweep over #16 Marion Military Institute on Monday, February 10, she collected four hits, one RBI, and maintained a batting average over .500.

With her strong start to the season, Briggs continues to be a key contributor for the Eagles as they push forward in their 2025 campaign.
