
MONROEVILLE, Ala. – The Meridian Community College softball team soared past Coastal Alabama North on Monday, securing two big road wins over the Coyotes. The Lady Eagles (10-8) claimed victory in a high-scoring opener, 13-9, before dominating the second game with a 16-4 run-rule win in five innings.
Game One: MCC Rallies for 13-9 Win
MCC showcased resilience in game one, overcoming an early 6-1 deficit to storm back for a 13-9 win. Paige Berry led the offensive charge with a standout 3-for-4 performance, collecting a double and two singles.
The Lady Eagles turned the tide in the fifth inning, plating five runs on three hits to take a 10-7 lead. Hannah Capello delivered a clutch two-run single to fuel the rally. Capello also starred in relief, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing just three runs (two earned) while striking out two.
MCC's bats were relentless, racking up 16 hits. Hannah Buckley, Capello, and Berry all had three hits, while Arlee McClellan and Lainey Briggs each had multi-hit performances.
Game Two: MCC Explodes for 16-4 Victory in Five Innings
Game two was all MCC, as the Lady Eagles' offense erupted for 16 runs on 16 hits. Julie Amacher led the charge, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while driving in multiple runs.
The Lady Eagles responded to an early 4-3 Coastal Alabama North lead by unloading an eight-run third inning. Amacher's two-run single was a key moment in the outburst. MCC tacked on five more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Mary Coumbe.
Amacher also shined in the circle, earning the win with a five-inning complete game, allowing just three hits while striking out five. The Lady Eagles were flawless defensively, committing no errors while Buckley anchored the defense with six putouts.
The Lady Eagles will look to build on this momentum as they return home and welcome Bishop State and Moberly Area on February 19.
