
Meridian, Miss – The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles soared to victory today, sweeping Reid State Technical College in a doubleheader that showcased their offensive firepower and pitching prowess. With a resounding 9-0 win in game one and a hard-fought 3-1 triumph in game two, the Lady Eagles had a great day at Tommy McDonald Field.
Game One – Run-Rule Victory
In a five-inning contest that ended under the run-rule, the Lady Eagles set the tone early and never looked back. Allie Loftin electrified the crowd with three hits in three at-bats, including an opening double and key singles in the fourth inning. MCC's offense roared to life in the fourth inning, amassing eight runs on hits from Arlee McClellan, Paige Berry, Rylee Turner, Raegan King, Lainey Briggs, and Loftin. On the mound, Hannah Capello delivered four strong innings, allowing only one hit and no runs, while Mary Coumbe secured the save, ensuring a flawless defensive effort with no errors committed on either side.
Game Two – A Battle of Wills
In a game where every play mattered, the Lady Eagles edged Reid State 3-1 in a true display of grit and determination. Reid State struck first in the second inning, but Sydney Coleman quickly sparked a comeback for MCC by tying the game with a clutch single later in the inning. The turning point came in the bottom of the fifth when Allie Loftin's double put MCC on the board, followed by a timely single from Rylee Turner that expanded the lead. Dakota Haynsworth maintained control on the mound by recording 18 outs over six innings, keeping the opposition at bay as the Lady Eagles built their narrow lead.
The Lady Eagles will take this momentum on the road at Mississippi Delta, where MCC will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 24th.
