Lady Eagles Celebrate Sophomore Day, Split with Calhoun

MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Meridian Community College softball team took the field on Sunday for a special day of action at Tommy McDonald Field, celebrating Sophomore Day in front of a packed crowd. The Lady Eagles battled through a doubleheader against Calhoun Community College, securing a 4-0 victory in game one before falling 8-0 in the second contest.

Game 1: MCC Triumphs Behind Strong Pitching and Power Hitting

The Lady Eagles set the tone early, jumping on the board in the bottom of the first. Raegan King delivered a two-run home run to left field, electrifying the MCC faithful. Arlee McClellan followed up with an RBI triple, extending the lead.

MCC's Dakota Haynsworth was dominant in the circle, earning the complete-game shutout. The lefty scattered five hits across seven innings, striking out six and walking none in a stellar performance.

Offensively, King led the charge, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. MCC played a clean game defensively, committing zero errors.

Game 2: Tough Outing for the Lady Eagles

The second game proved challenging for MCC, as Calhoun took control early. The Lady Eagles struggled to generate offense, managing just one hit while drawing six walks.

In the circle, Hannah Capello made the start, while Julie Amacher and Sarah Watson came in for relief, combining for three strikeouts across five innings.

Sophomore Day Celebration

Despite the tough second game, the highlight of the day came after the final out, as MCC honored seven Lady Eagles for their contributions to the program. Julie Amacher, Makenna Borne, Sydney Coleman, Dakota Haynsworth, Marlee McCalister, Arlee McClellan, and Sarah Watson were recognized on the field, receiving their jerseys and heartfelt applause from teammates, coaches, and fans.

The Lady Eagles are set to return to action on Tuesday, March 4, hosting Coastal Alabama North in another home doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Tommy McDonald Field.
