Lady Eagles Dominate Coahoma in Conference Doubleheader Sweep

CLARKSDALE, Miss. – The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles soared to victory on Monday, securing a dominant doubleheader sweep over the Coahoma Lady Tigers in MACCC action. With a powerful offensive display and strong pitching performances, MCC claimed a 17-0 run-rule win in a five inning game one and an 11-1 run-rule victory in a five inning game two. The sweep improves the Lady Eagles' record to 17-15 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Berry's Five RBIs Power MCC to 17-0 Victory

In game one freshman Paige Berry had a standout performance, driving in five runs on three hits, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Berry also recorded a two-run single in the first and an RBI single in the third, helping MCC take an early commanding lead.

The Lady Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, with Hannah Buckley blasting a two-run home run in the first inning. MCC continued to pile on runs with contributions from Sydney Coleman, Rylee Turner, and Mary Coumbe, as well as key doubles from Buckley and Turner.

On the mound, Sarah Watson delivered a stellar start, allowing just three hits over three scoreless innings while striking out three. Marlee McCalister provided two innings of dominant relief, striking out six without allowing a run.

MCC racked up 14 hits, with Turner, Coleman, and Berry each collecting three. Buckley and Allie Loftin also recorded multiple hits in the impressive offensive showing.

Bottom of the Lineup Shines in 11-1 Win

MCC's depth was on full display in game two as Julie Amacher, Camry Johnson, and Coleman combined for four of the Lady Eagles' eight hits, contributing four runs and four RBIs.

An early error put MCC on the board in the first, but the big blow came in the second when Amacher sprinted around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, driving in two. The Lady Eagles extended their lead with a solo shot from Lainey Briggs in the fourth inning.

Coumbe dominated in the circle, striking out nine while allowing just one run on three hits in a complete-game effort.

At the plate, Briggs, Coleman, and Berry each collected two hits, while Amacher, Briggs, and Coleman all drove in two runs. Johnson added two stolen bases, and the Lady Eagles played error-free defense with Johnson leading the team with nine defensive chances.

After an explosive day at the plate, the Lady Eagles will shift their focus to a challenging conference matchup against 18th-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast. MCC will travel to Perkinston for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 19, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
